Noida based artist Pranava Prakesh painted hot and sizzling paintings of Poonam Pandey, Vidya alan and Veena Malik and shown tthem in an exhibition at Noida.

Some people did not like the idea of portraying these ladies in such a fashion. They found it vulgar and against Indian culture.

The miscreants raised slogans against obscenity and vandalised the Espace Alternative Gallery on the Greater Noida expressway. They thrashed artist Pranava and tore down his paintings before making a quick exit.

According to Prakash, the protestors were from a right-wing group and in the past have raised objecctions over his artwork saying that his paintings offend their beliefs.

This is a yet another blot on artistic freedom of expression in the country as these five unknown men, miffed with kitsch and assaulted artist Pranava Prakash.

The images that were damaged were of Bollywood star Vidya Balan, Pakistani actress Veena Malik and model Poonam Pandey.

Most of the paintings were based on a Bollywood theme and included several nude paintings of popular actors and TV stars, includingVidya Balan, Poonam Pandey and Pakistani actor Veena Malik.

While one painting showed Vidya posing nude for MF Husain, Veena Malik was portrayed nude with the Pakistani flag painted on her bare back.

one painting  which was mainly attacked – ‘Even Poonam Pandey Loves Anna’ – Pranava had painted celeb model Pandey posing nude with the words “I am Anna” painted in Marathi on her bosom .Speaking to news channels, a shocked Pranava said: “I was just walking about the gallery when some unidentified men appeared and started misbehaving with me. They accused me of disrespecting India’s culture.”

This not the first time Pranava Prakash has performed such an bold act. He was earlier in the news after Lalit Kala Academy refused to allow him to exhibit paintings after news broke that he had painted author Arundhati Roy nude in bed with Osama and Mao. The controversial painting was titled “The Goddess of Fifteen Minutes of Fame”.
